February 16, 2013, Annual Duck Banding and Greenwing, Ballard County Ducks Unlimited Chapter, Held Annually at the Ballard Wildlife Management Area for a Greenwing member who is someone age 17 or younger. Greenwings received a Ballard County Greenwings T-shirt, were able to participate in outdoors events supervised by volunteers with hamburgers and hot dogs served at the end of the event.

March 16, 2013, 10:am-1:pm, Easter Egg Hunt/ Kid’s Fair, Parkway Regional Hospital, Fulton, Ky. Ages eligible for the egg hunt are preKindergarten to 4th grade.. Other activities include: face painting, Easter bunny photos, teddy bear clinic, emergency vehicle tours, and local vendors. All events are free, and refreshments will be provided.
March 29, 2013, 7:30 pm, “Glow in the Dark” Easter Egg Hunt at La Center City Park. Prizes will be awarded for the golden egg in each age group and at least 2000 eggs will be hidden. Contact Mary Helen or Elaine for details.
March 30, 2013, Ballard County Bass Club will hold its first 2013 tournament on March 30th! Takeoff will be at 6:15 and weigh in at 2:00! The membership fee will be a one time fee of $10 PER PERSON. Also, instead of $30 PER BOAT, the entry fee this year will be $40 PER BOAT with 100% payout.

April 20, 2013, 9:00 a.m., Civil War Trust Park Clean Up Day, Columbus-Belmont State Park, 350 Park Road, Columbus, KY 42032, History Buffs and preservationists from around the country will team up with Civil War Trust, to help clean and restore America’s priceless battlefields, cemeteries and shrines. The nationwide effort –dubbed Park Day – is underwritten with a grant from History Channel and endorsed by Take Pride in America, a division of the U.S. Dept. of the Interior. Over 100 sites in 25 states are expected to take part in the effort with activities ranging from trash removal to trail building or planting flowers. May 18 & 19, 2013/ 9:am-5:pm – Bow Building Workshop at Wickliffe Mounds, Participants will have expert instruction on building an Eastern woodlands style long bow out of hickory staves. Tools and supplies will be provided, but you may bring your own hand tools to use for constructing the bow if you prefer. This is a two-day workshop and overnight camping is available. Participants must bring your own tent and camping gear. This class is limited and advance reservation is required. Workshop fee: $100 (includes campout). May 25, 2013, Ballard County Wheels & Wings Bike Ride, 7:am,Registration, 8:am Ride Begins, Ballard County’s third annual bike ride. Start/finish from Ballard County Preschool, 455 Olive St., La Center, KY just off U.S. 60. All routes — 15-, 30-, 60- and 100-mile. The new century and 60-mile routes go from La Center to Wickliffe to Barlow, Kevil and beyond, so you’ll get to see the beautiful KY Great River Road National Scenic Byway. Registration is $20 for individuals. A limited number of cool tee shirts with our new logos will be available for $10 each. June 1, 2013, 9:00 a.m. National Trails Day – Take a History Hike, Columbus-Belmont State Park, 350 Park Road, Columbus, KY 42032, American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is a celebration of America’s magnificent Trail System, occurring annually on the first Saturday in June. NTD features a series of outdoor activities designed to promote and celebrate the importance of trails in the United States. Individuals, clubs, and organizations from around the country host National Trails Day events to share their love of trails with friends, family and their communities. Columbus-Belmont State Park has 2.5 miles of hiking trails that lead through woods and nature area and historic earthworks from the Civil War. Seven day ride through the heart of the central United States, visiting portions of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Cross the mighty Mississippi River on one of the last remaining riverboat ferries. Experience the history of, and see landforms created by the Great New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-1812. Tour a Civil War era mansion and museum, visit a restored early 1900’s one-room schoolhouse and the residence/studio where Ernest Hemingway wrote “A Farewell to Arms”. Average 60 miles a day riding on some of the flattest terrain anywhere! And for those cyclists for whom no ride is complete without some elevation gains, there will be optional hilly routes offered. Friday is “education day”. Schools, scouts, groups, & clubs are encouraged to schedule field trips. Battles will be held at 2:00 both Sat. and Sun. There will be a Ghost Walk on Friday evening and a Civil War Ball on Saturday night. Sunday morning services and a memorial ceremony at Columbus Cemetery. Sutlers and food vendors will be on site to serve the needs of the re-enactors and visiting guests. Special entertainment daily featuring Rick Revel and The 52nd. Regimental String Band.
