March 19, 2016, 5:-7:pm, SOUP BOWLS for MISSIONS at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center,  **Purchase tickets for the bowls through your local church** Local potter, Danny Whitllock, donated 200 beautiful pottery bowls to be filled with soups or chilies. An individual can purchase a handmade bowl and then eat all the soup and chili that they would like. A minimum donation of $15 is requested for a pottery bowl.

April 9, 2016, 9:am, Emotions in Motion: 5K Run/Walks, Ballard County Preschool, La Center, Kentucky 42056  Emotions in Motion: 5K Run/Walks take place in communities like yours across the country, with the proceeds benefiting Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE). This event is open to everyone! You do not have to run or walk to take part. Anyone can attend, encourage others and raise money- not to mention raise awareness for a cause that needs to be talked about!! By participating in one of SAVE’s 5K’s you will be raising money for SAVE’s many educational programs to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce stigma and serve as a resource for those touched by suicide. The Emotions in Motion 5K will start and end at Ballard County Preschool. The route is wheelchair and stroller accessible. The run will be timed for those who still wish to race the clock! April 16, 2016,  9:00 a.m.-12: noon, Civil War Trust Park Clean Up Day, Columbus-Belmont State Park, 350 Park Road, Columbus, KY  42032, History Buffs and preservationists from around the country will team up with Civil War Trust, to help clean and restore America’s priceless battlefields, cemeteries and shrines.  The nationwide effort –dubbed Park Day – is underwritten with a grant from History Channel and endorsed by Take Pride in America, a division of the U.S. Dept. of the Interior. Over 100 sites in 25 states are expected to take part in the effort with activities ranging from trash removal to trail building or planting flowers.  In exchange for their hard work, volunteers receive t-shirts, lite lunch, and learn the site’s history from local experts.  At Columbus-Belmont State Park volunteers are needed to PLANT FLOWERS, PICK UP STICKS, LIMBS, TRASH, and WORK IN TRAILS.  Bring gloves, rakes, and brooms.Call park office for more information 270-677-2327 or email cindy.lynch@ky.gov

April 21, 2016 “Riverboat Series” at Columbus-Belmont State Park, Run/Walk Through KY-IL-TN-AR-MS-LA-MI- (April 17-23,2016) USA Track & Field Sanctioned Event starting at Columbus-Belmont State Park, 7 Days – 7 States – Marathons/Half-Marathons. Start Times: 7 am every day. This will be at first light and, as a result, there will be no early starts. No dogs to accompany runners.  Each participant will receive a separate medal for each day, one cotton t-shirt, and other good stuff. Special medals to those who complete all five. COURSE: two loops totaling 2.184 miles, south loop (1.445 miles) is paved with views of the Mississippi River, north loop on dirt and grass through Civil War Earthworks. Kids can make a butterfly craft to take home. Learn how the Mississippian Native American People at the Wickliffe Mounds used plants for foods and medicines and how archaeology tells us about prehistoric diets. May 28, 2016  Ballard County Wheels and Wings, 6th Annual bicycle tour starting at Ballard County Preschool, 455 Olive St., LaCenter, KY, Rain or shine!, Choice of 15-, 30- and 60-mile routes. Routes: The tour starts at Ballard County Preschool in LaCenter. The 30-mile route goes through Oscar, Monkey’s Eyebrow, Bandana and back to LaCenter. The 60-mile route goes south of U.S. 60 and west to Wickliffe, before turning north to Barlow, farther north to Monkey’s Eyebrow, then going on into McCracken County to the Heath area before returning to Bandana/LaCenter. There are wide expanses of almost-empty state roads bordered by green fields and pastures, small lakes, and some of the largest cypress tree stands in Western Kentucky. With luck, you might even see one of our bald eagles! The 15- and 30-mile routes are mostly flat. Even beginners can complete them. The 60-mile route is more challenging, with a series of rolling hills in the first 20 miles. Lines of sight are long, and traffic is light on all routes.  Family-friendly! Children 12 and under ride for free with a registered adult. Required: All riders must wear helmets and obey traffic laws. Start and finish at Ballard County Preschool, 455 Olive St., LaCenter. June 11, 2016, KNAP-IN AT WICKLIFFE MOUNDS, Saturday, 9:30 to 3:30 p.m. Flint-knapping is the art of shaping stone into useful tools such as spear points, arrowheads, and flint knives, a very useful skill for prehistoric people. Flint-knapping specialist, Fred “Arrowhead” Bollinger, and fellow knapper friends, will be creating stone tools and sharing their knowledge of the lithic craft with park visitors. Come out to the park and watch all day, learning the art and craft of flint-knapping. Knappers must be registered prior to the event to participate. June 15-16, 2016 (12-18th tour dates), Ride the Fault Line Bicycling Touring arriving for two nights in Hickman, KY. Seven day supported bike tour through Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Registration begins in December 2013www.ridethefault.com; A ride through the heart of the central United States, visiting portions of Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Cross the mighty Mississippi River on one of the last remaining riverboat ferries. Experience the history and see landforms created by the Great New Madrid Earthquakes of 1811-1812. Tour a Civil War era mansion and museum, visit a restored early 1900’s one-room schoolhouse and the residence/studio where Ernest Hemingway wrote “A Farewell to Arms”. Average 60 miles a day riding on some of the flattest terrain anywhere! And for those cyclists for whom no ride is complete without some elevation gains, there will be optional hilly routes offered. Discover over 12 miles of trails stretched across a 252 acre farm, located along the banks of the Mississippi River Trails of KY near an unincorporated city of Burkley, KY – between Bardwell, Arlington, and Columbus-Belmont State Park.  The trails range in skill level from beginners to extreme riders, including a mud pit! There is much to explore throughout our hills and valleys!  Progress! Our Trailhead facility offer snacks, riding necessities such as tow rope, fix a flat, ice, glasses, etc, souvenirs, and a place to cool off! We have a lot in the works to create a great place to ride! Come check us out this weekend! Gates open at 10 on Saturday and Sunday!

Notice… As of 2015, there is no charge to ride in Wright’s Area 252 Riding Park.  Each person must execute a waiver of liability before hitting the trails. A complete list of rules and a map of the trails will be provided to you upon arrival.

A Trailhead facility was completed in 2015.  We soon will have many products available for purchase like drinks, food, and don’t forget the ice. Other products available will include, sunglasses, tow ropes, and souvenirs, and much more for your riding needs!

You are responsible for your own safety. Trail use has inherent risks with a variety of unexpected and/or dangerous conditions. It is your responsibility to be informed and take precautions. Trail conditions are subject to change without notice. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. All users must adhere to local, state, and federal laws.

All users of the recreational area are required annually to execute a waiver of liability and purchase a permit to enter Wright’s Area 252 Riding Park. Failure to follow rules and safe operation guidelines may result in arrest, fines, temporary or permanent ban from AREA 252.  Helmets are required per KRS Law 189.515. Protective gear recommended by the ATV Safety Institute is strongly recommended, as are all product recommendations specific to your vehicle. All off road vehicle drivers and riders should follow the manufacture’s safe operating procedures.  Each vehicle entering the AREA 252 must display a permit sticker in highly visible location on ATV.

AREA 252 does not require a permits to ride.  The Carlisle County River Trail System does require a Permit once you leave Area 252 property grounds.  Permits may be purchased at local retail outlets or at the 911 Dispatch Office at the Carlisle County Curthouse in Bardwell, KY

Permit user must provide valid drivers license with picture identification. No unauthorized or non-permitted vehicles allowed in AREA 252.  No users under the age of 18 allowed in AREA 252 without written permission from parent or legal guardian. A parent or legal guardian must sign a liability waiver in the presence of AREA 252 staff. Adult must accompany Minors 16 and under at all times.

No Drugs or mind altering substances are allowed in AREA 252. Alcohol Consumption before or while operating a motorized vehicle is not permitted.

No firearms, no hunting, no concealed weapons, or explosives of any kind is allowed in AREA 252.

AREA 252, or any person or entity associated with AREA 252 is neither liable nor responsible for damage, loss, or theft of personal property or injury.

No Trail Blazing is allowed. Stay on designated trails. Do not enter areas marked Private Property The terrain is constantly changing. Check each hill. Ride all trails with caution. Do not block any trail at any time except for emergencies or maintenance. Nonoperative vehicles should be moved to the side of the trails and attended to immediately. Mug Bogging allowed only on designated Trail #9 area only. Uphill riders shall always have first right-of-passage if possible.

Racing is not allowed. No excessive speed or reckless driving is allowed. No fighting allowed, regardless of fault or incident all parties, will be asked to leave AREA 252 for 48 hour cooling off period. All vehicles must operate in a manner to avoid incidents and/or accidents while in Area 252.

Camp fires allowed in designated areas only. No large fires – only downed wood/dead wood may be used for small camp fires. Leave no fires burning or smoldering. Fully extinguished campfires prior to leaving camping areas. Shelter and picnic tables will be available first come first serve. Riding through campground area permissible by executing a Lodging Agreement. No glass bottles or containers allowed. All vehicles must have front and rear lights while driving at night. The removal of any plants, rocks, trees, wildlife or otherwise is prohibited. Absolutely no littering. Pack it in – Pack it out. Do not damage any crops in AREA 252. Do not disturb wildlife.

Indian Camp Campground situated in the Carlisle County River Trails Mississippi River bottoms bordered on 3 sides by the Doug Travis Wildlife Management Area, managed by the Kentucky Dept Of Fish and Wildlife, The campground is a self-contained RV park with access to hunting, fishing, bird watching, and hiking. Located near by is Wright’s Area 252 ATV Riding Park with ease of access through adjoining Sand Creek. The Carlisle County River Trail system offers 21 miles of roads and trails for ATV’s and horses directly located on the Mississippi River.

The campground has 9 sites with electric, 4-30 amp and 5-50 amp services, a sanitary station and water fill station.

During times of high water, the campground could be closed, please call to ahead to confirm status. 270-254-5043

River Trails. 9:am Registration at the Indian Camp Campground on County Road 1217, Arlington, KY. First riders out at 10am, last one in by 1pm. Parking available by the fire station in Burkley, at the old boat ramp at Laketon and a limited amount at the campground. $10.00 dollars a hand and you can play unlimited amount of hands.
