Formerly the Ballard County Ride for the Refuge, organizers have increased the number of routes to include rides up to 15 miles, 30 miles, 60 miles, and 100 mile routes. All begin and end at the Family Life Center at the La Center’s First Baptist Church at 421 Broadway. Registration begins at 7:am for an 8:am start with support vehicles available until 3:pm. American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is a celebration of America’s magnificent Trail System, occurring annually on the first Saturday in June. NTD features a series of outdoor activities designed to promote and celebrate the importance of trails in the United States. Individuals, clubs, and organizations from around the country host National Trails Day events to share their love of trails with friends, family and their communities. Columbus-Belmont State Park has 2.5 miles of hiking trails that lead through woods and nature area and historic earthworks from the Civil War. Family Fun Archaeology Day at Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site, located at 94 Green Street , Hwy 51-60-62, 270-335-3681, email wickliffemounds@ky.gov- (9:am-4:pm) Hands-on demonstrations of pottery, primitive technology, atlatls and spears, bows and arrows, stone tools, crafts, Mississippian foods, Native American games and archaeology for a kids’ eye view. Ballard County Cooperative Extension will have a Healthy Snacks Exhibit. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for kids and seniors.
